I have spent most of my working life in the SME environment. What attracted me when I moved from the corporate world was the potential to influence the growth, profit performance, direction and trajectory of the business. The sheer excitement of the smaller business environment, the constant challenges, overcoming the obstacles to improvement and the sudden successes kept me enthusiastically engaged. My favorite occupation has been devising and executing turnaround strategies for businesses heading for failure.and returning them to a course of profitability and growth.
My primary university trained skills have been in finance but also a significant area has been strategic planning and marketing management.
I have always loved teaching, training, mentoring and coaching people both as a lecturer in business studies and staff that I have been involved with in my business world and I think this has contributed enormously to the ability to turn businesses around.
My latest ventures have been starting a hardware business with a young entrepreneur in January and launching this online business course as the first of a series on the various functions of business management focusing on businesses stages from startup and through the growing phases.
